Saints, Colts Early Favorites To Win Super Bowl XLV

Super Bowl XLV is less than nine months away, and the early Vegas odds favor a Saints-Colts rematch.  The two teams that made for such a memorable Super Bowl XLIV, not to mention the highest TV ratings in American history, are both 9/1 co-favorites to win it all in 2011.  The Colts have an easier path back to the big game — they’re 4/1 favorites to repeat as AFC champs, and -160 favorites to win the piss-poor AFC South.  The Saints have slightly longer odds as 9/2 favorites for another NFC title, and the same -160 to win the NFC South.

The team Vegas has closest to the Saints and Colts is somewhat surprisingly the Jets, who barely made the playoffs, but won two road playoff games before losing to Indianapolis in the AFC Championship Game.  Perhaps buoyed by an overoptimistic large fan base, the Jets are 10/1 to win Super Bowl XLIV, 11/2 to win their first AFC title since Joe Namath’s squad did it in 1969, and slight +130 favorites to win the AFC East.  The Patriots are right behind them at +135 in the AFC East, 6/1 to win the AFC, and 12/1 to win their fourth Super Bowl.

The Chargers have the same 11/2 odds to win the AFC as the Jets, but are at a slightly longer 11/1 to win the Super Bowl.  San Diego is also the biggest favorite to win a division at -333.

Joining the Patriots at 12/1 to win the Super Bowl for football betting are the Cowboys and Vikings.  Dallas and Minnesota are both at 6/1 to win the NFC. However, the Cowboys are +130 favorites to win the NFC East, while the Vikings actually aren’t favored to win their division.  Green Bay is the +130 favorite to win the NFC North, while Minnesota is close behind at +150.  The Packers though are a longer shot to win the NFC (7/1) and the Super Bowl (14/1).

What about longshots?  For winning it all — the darkest horses are Buffalo, St. Louis and Tampa Bay at 100/1.  Somehow the Lions, who are 2-30 over the last two seasons, have better odds at 90/1.  The Chiefs are also 90/1 to win the Super Bowl, but join the Bills as the longest shots to win the AFC (50/1).  For the NFC title, Tampa and St. Louis are again longest (60/1), with Detroit close behind (50/1).  The Bucs and Bills are the longest shots to win their divisions at +2000.
