One of the most intriguing games of Week 6 is the 4-1 New England Patriots hosting the 2-2 Dallas Cowboys. In the leadup, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo can’t say enough nice things about each other, despite Romo’s tendency to blow games in the fourth quarter and the Patriots defense being ranked last in the NFL.

“I think really, they’re a good defensive unit that’s just coming into their own lately,” Romo told reporters on Wednesday. “I think they’re going to be pretty good the rest of the way. … Obviously, they’re well coached and they do a lot of different things … You just have to be prepared for a lot of different stuff.”

Romo “gets it out quick, uses all of his skill players, is smart in terms of running run-pass checks,” said Belichick as he strained to find compliments for Romo. “They do some things based on one look the defense gives. If they get another look, they’ll do something else. … He obviously handles that pretty well. He’s athletic, he can get out of the pocket, make some plays with his feet.

And what does Romo have to say about his fourth quarter mistakes that contributed heavily to both Dallas losses? Well, his answer sounds a lot like a .500 quarterback. “You never want that to happen,” said Romo of blowing two big fourth-quarter leads. “We were also fortunate to have all the things go right against Washington and against San Francisco. For every game that’s the other way, there’s another one the other side. … Everyone is this league is good … You have to minimize turnovers in key situations. We did that for two of the games and two of the games we didn’t. That’s really what it comes down to.”

The Cowboys, coming off their bye last week, are seven-point road underdogs this Sunday.
