Jets defensive end Shaun Ellis has a busted hand that will require surgery, but that won’t keep the man’s man from balling in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday. It’s common knowledge in NFL circles that if you play for Rex Ryan, nothing less than a severed limb will keep you off the field.

Rumor has it when team doctors broke the news to Ryan, he scoffed at the injury and uttered, “I once played with a nail in my knee cap. Just wrapped the damn thing in duct tape. Had myself one helluva game. Shaun will be fine.” I love it when Rexy tells stories from his youth. Even if they are fake.

In order to test Shaun’s toughness, Ryan and defensive coordinator Mike Pettine decided to reenact the following scene from Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winning The Departed:

Needless to say, Ellis is confident he’ll be available on Sunday.
