New Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho isn’t one to keep his thoughts to himself and he let loose recently as he laid into Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and new Inter Milan boss Rafael Benitez. The ill feelings toward Wenger and Benitez stem back to the time Mourinho spent in the English Premier League with Chelsea.
He got the ball rolling by saying Arsenal is a team of write offs and their chances of winning the EPL title are slim and none. He pointed to the fact Arsenal hasn’t won anything since the FA Cup in 2005 and Wenger has failed to take the club forward over the years.
Mourinho of Portugal also believes the EPL title will come down to three teams, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City. Mourinho also had a few things to say about Benitez, who has taken over from him at Inter Milan, as he said the Liverpool squad has gotten progressively worse year after year even though it has some good players in Steven Gerrard, Fernando, Torres, and Pepe Reina. He mentioned that Benitez is now lucky to be managing at Inter Milan, where Mourinho led them to several trophies last season, including the Champions League.
He feels Benitez’s time in charge will affect new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson as he has been left with a pretty weak squad. Benitez also came under fire from Hodgson, who accused him of trying to poach players such as Javier Mascherano, and Dirk Kuyt.
He then focused back on Arsenal and pointed to the fact that Wenger keeps saying he has a young team, when in reality Mourinho believes they are a team of 25 to 27 year olds who are in their prime and need to start winning some silverware.
It’s not surprising that Mourinho trash talked Wenger and Benitez as he clearly didn’t get along with them while he was at Chelsea. However, some British newspapers reported that Mourinho also had some scathing things to say about England manager Fabio Capello. But Mourinho denied making any statements about Capello and said he will take legal action against newspapers that reported he did.
