The Los Angeles Dodgers have invited Jeff Weaver to their Spring Training shindig with a minor league deal after the right-hander went 6-4 with a 3.65 ERA in 28 games for them last year. The 33-year-old is a career 99-118 with a 4.67 ERA over 10 seasons in the big leagues.
Weaver would earn $800,000 next year if he’s added to the 40-man roster and could see $100,000 in performance bonuses if he doesn’t suck.
The club has also picked up Reed Johnson for next season to the tune of $800,000. The outfielder, who spent the last two years with the Chicago Cubs, hit .255 with four homers and 22 RBIs over 65 games last season and is pretty handy at all three outfield positions. Too bad he can’t hit worth a crap.
Last but certainly not least, the San Francisco Giants and free agent Guillermo Mota have agreed to a minor league deal along with a shiny invitation to their spring training camp.
The 36-year-old righty went 3-4 with a 3.44 ERA in 61 appearances with the division rival Dodgers last season. Mota’s career record is 36-39 with a 3.89 ERA over 11 big league seasons… he’s been around so long he even played for the Montreal Expos.

can’t hit huh?
Johnsons line vs LH last season .324 .403 .500
Manny’s vs LH; .270 .379 .514
Don’t give up your day job, whatever that is.
Who said anything about Manny Ramirez? Johnson may be good against let-handers, but the majority of pitchers in the league are rightys. I just don’t think a .255 batting average (overall) is all that great. Thanks for the comment!
