The Philadelphia Flyers downed the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday 5-2 to head into the All Star break with the most points in the National Hockey League. Philadelphia scored two goals in both the first and second periods and walked away with a 3 goal win.
Jeff Carter scored his 23rd goal, via the power play to start the scoring. Later in the period, Kimmo Timonen also added a power play goal to push the lead to two. Philadelphia scored 23 seconds into the second period, as Daniel Carcillo scored his third goal of the season. Montreal made the score 3-1, before Claude Giroux scored his 19th goal of the season. The final goal for the Flyers was empty net, as Danny Briere recorded #26 on the season.
In the win, Philadelphia goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky saved 29 of 31 shots on goal. The Flyers with the win moved to 33-12-5 on the season. The 71 points is four more than Tampa Bay in the Eastern Conference and two more than Vancouver. The loss for the Canadiens dropped them to 27-18-5. They currently are the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference; with 59 points.
