Bill Pecota, sabermagician extraordinaire of Baseball Prospectus, has come out with his predictions for the 2010 season — and well, they’re kind of obvious. Pecota sees the Tampa Bay Devil Rays finishing 2010 with the best record in Major League Baseball, while the New York Yankees will miss the playoffs for the second time in three years.
While I’ve questioned Mr. Pecota’s methods and results in the past, it’s hard to argue with this year’s picks.
Here’s how Bill sees the rest of the season playing out:
- The Boston Red Sox will take the AL Wild Card, and have the second-best record in baseball
- The Minnesota Twins will win the AL Central with a pathetic Cardinals-esque 82-80 record
- The Oakland A’s will win the AL West, while the Angels will finish dead last
- The Phillies, Cardinals and Dodgers will all repeat as division champs
- The Braves and Diamondbacks will need a playoff to determine the NL Wild Card
Sounds like a lot more fun than last year.
