With Tiger Woods playing much better, at least by his post-scandal standards, there wasn’t much drama in whether he’d actually make the US Ryder Cup Team, but there was some doubt about who’d get the other three captain’s picks. On Tuesday, US captain Corey Pavin announced the four men he’d chosen to complete the US roster: Tiger, Stewart Cink, rookie Rickie Fowler and Zach Johnson.
European Team captain Colin Montgomerie said he was glad Tiger will playing against his team, while politely telling reporters he thought Pavin had made good picks. “I am delighted to see Tiger Woods amongst Corey’s selections,” said Monty, who’s had infidelity scandals of his own. “The Ryder Cup is a better event with him in it.” Tiger has a career Ryder Cup record of 10-13-2, and has only been on one winning team in five tries.
Here’s your complete US Team roster:
- Tiger Woods (ranked #1 in the world)
- Phil Mickelson (#2)
- Steve Stricker (#4)
- Jim Furyk (#5)
- Matt Kuchar (#11)
- Hunter Mahan (#13)
- Zach Johnson (#17)
- Dustin Johnson (#24)
- Bubba Watson (#25)
- Rickie Fowler (#33)
- Stewart Cink (#35)
- Jeff Overton (#47)
And the complete European Team roster:
- Lee Westwood (#3), England
- Martin Kaymer(#6), Germany
- Rory McIlroy (#7), Northern Ireland
- Luke Donald (#8), England
- Ian Poulter (#12), England
- Graeme McDowell (#14), Northern Ireland
- Edoardo Molinari (#15), Italy
- Padraig Harrington (#20), Ireland
- Miguel Angel Jimenez (#27), Spain
- Ross Fisher (#28), England
- Francesco Molinari (#36), Italy
- Peter Hanson (#43), Sweden
Tiger said the usual crap about being selected, then claimed he can handle the pressures of playing in enemy territory:
It’s great to be a part of this team. I’m honored to be selected … and looking forward to going back and having a great time with the team and hopefully, bring the Cup back. …
On the road, it’s very different. You get booed a lot, you get jeered, and people say things they probably shouldn’t say. I’ve had that experience and understand how to deal with it and make it a positive thing.
