Chad Ochocinco is unemployed after being released on Thursday by the New England Patriots after one disappointing season. Ochocinco started just three games for the Pats last season, his 11th in the NFL and his first not for the Cincinnati Bengals. He ended the 2011 regular season with just 15 catches for 276 yards and a single touchdown, all career lows, then caught one pass for 21 yards in the Super Bowl.
Ochocinco was gracious in his goodbye to Patriots fans after spending all of 10 months with the team: “Thoroughly enjoyed the oppurtunity to play for the “Patriot” organization… fans were f***ing wicked awesome, I wish all of you the best…” He might be gracious considering he made $5.75 million last year.
So, life moves on for Ochocinco, who changed his Twitter bio to “unemployed black man,” then spent Friday morning at Waffle House eating “sausage egg and cheese on raisin bread with apple butter jelly on it.”
A Bengals beat reporter sees a return to Cincinnati as unlikely. If I had to pick a spot for him to land, I’d think Oakland and a reunion with Carson Palmer on the Raiders. Or a similar team that just wants to sell some jerseys and tickets — maybe the Vikings, Redskins, Bills or Titans.
