Orioles Fire Shatner-Lookalike Trembley

At 15-39, the Baltimore Orioles have the worst record in baseball and now the first fired manager of the 2010 season, officially giving Dave Trembley the boot Friday morning.  Third base coach Juan Samuel takes over as interim manager, but Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail says he’s looking for a permanent successor (my suggestion still stands).

Trembley will be mostly remembered for resembling William Shatner. Trembley took over for Sam Perlozzo in the middle of 1997, and guided the team to a 187-283 mark over parts of four seasons.  Granted the Orioles have been awful for over a decade, but Trembley’s .398 winning percentage is the worst by an O’s manager since Jimmy Dykes in 1954 (fired after one .354 season).

The last Orioles manager who led the team to a winning record was Davey Johnson (.574, 1996-1997).  Since then you’ve had

My theory is still sports curse for stealing the Browns.

Interim manager Juan Samuel spent the past four years coaching the Orioles.  His only managerial experience came in 2006, when he was the skipper of the AA Binghamton Mets.  Prior to that he spent seven years coaching in Detroit.  He also made three All-Star teams in his 16-year playing career.
