Kind of a strange day from a sports betting perspective as there’s a lot of games on the board–particularly in college hoops–but not a lot of value opportunities in my opinion. We do have at least one NHL hockey betting opportunity worth looking at, and we’ll head to Edmonton, Alberta as the Oilers host the St. Louis Blues. Edmonton is officially the worst team in the NHL with 38 points on the year. The Blues, meanwhile, aren’t a bad hockey team and are at least within ‘spitting distance’ of the playoffs. St. Louis is in 13th place in the Western Conference but just 5 points out of the final playoff spot. They’ve got a good opportunity for back to back victories with tonight’s game and an upcoming home game against Columbus. Since I couldn’t find any St. Louis Blues Ice Girl pictures to accompany this post the Russian KHL hockey team Dynamo Minsk graciously volunteered one of theirs. Maybe its my weakness for Eastern European women, but the Russians are sure doing this ice girl thing right…
ST. LOUIS BLUES VS. EDMONTON OILERS:
The Oilers might not quite be the New Jersey Nets of the NHL but they’re close. They’ve lost 11 straight games and have only 1 win in their past 20 games. They’re so deep in the NHL Western Conference cellar that they’re downright subterranean–they trail 14th place Columbus by 13 points! The Oilers rank 21st in the league in goals for and 29th in the league in goals against and that formula isn’t going to produce a whole lot of wins.
Blues have played very well on the road this year–they put up a good effort against a tough Vancouver team last night and are 14-8-4 on enemy ice this season. Blues have struggled in the second of back to back games this year (2-8 in that spot) but with an opportunity to pull into playoff contention by picking up four relatively easy points in their next two games we’re thinking they get the job done here. Simply put, its hard to pass up the opportunity to go against Edmonton in their current form at a reasonable price.
