NHL hockey betting action on tap tonight as the Anaheim Ducks head to the Phillips Center to take on the Atlanta Thrashers. At the moment, neither team is in playoff position though the Ducks have improved lately and are within sight of the top eight teams in the Western Conference. Anaheim trails 8th place Detroit by only three points and will be looking to make up some ground during an East Coast road trip.
ANAHEIM DUCKS VS. ATLANTA THRASHERS
Thrashers aren’t out of contention, but they’re in a big pack of teams looking to nail down one of the final three playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. Right now only 3 points separate 6th place Philadelphia from 13th place Tampa Bay, so they’ve got their work cut out for them if they want to make it to the postseason. One of the Thrashers’ biggest problems this year has been inconsistent play on their home ice. Atlanta is only 11-9-4 on their own ice, and that’s something that won’t work for a team with playoff aspirations. They’re not in particularly good form at the moment, having won only 4 of their last 13 games overall.
The Ducks, meanwhile, have been playing better hockey of late winning 8 of their last 10 games. They don’t have a great YTD record away from the Honda Center, but during their recent run have impressive road victories at Nashville and Chicago. We’ll look for the respective form of the teams to continue here and expect the Ducks to get the win. They’ve dominated the head to head series, winning 7 of the last 11 meetings including four of the last five in the Thrashers’ building. Right now, they’re simply the better of these two teams and we’re getting them at a decent price.
