NHL Free Picks: Blue Jackets in the Desert

We’ll get back to the NHL, where our personal ATM this season the Phoenix Coyotes have actually played only one ‘under’ in their past four games (2-1-1).  They lost 4-2 at Anaheim on Saturday night and will return home to take on the struggling Columbus Blue Jackets.  The Jackets didn’t start out too badly this season, but they’ve been in freefall lately with only 2 wins in their last 15 games.

COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS VS. PHOENIX COYOTES

As we’ve discussed several times here at SportsUntapped, we’re planning to play the Coyotes ‘under’ as often as possible until it quits being profitable.  The 2-1-1 totals run is a little deceiving:  that includes a 3-2 game at Detroit (push), one over where they went on a scoring binge against a defensively porous Toronto team, and another over on Saturday night where a Ducks’ empty net goal with 20 seconds left in the game pushed them over.  In other words, the fundamental premise is still sound.  Phoenix is a team that doesn’t have the offensive playmakers to play up-tempo so they need to go ‘under’ to win.

The Jackets are a team that they’ll easily be able to control tempo against.  Columbus has a bit of an ‘over’ bias on the year, but have gone ‘under’ in five of the last eight.  Phoenix as we all know by now is an ‘under’ machine.  They’ve gone ‘under’ in 25 of 36 games this year, ‘under’ in 13 of 17 at home and ‘under’ in 7 of 8 off a loss.  They’ve also gone ‘under’ in 8 of the last 11 meetings with Columbus including 4 of the last 5 at home.

PLAY COLUMBUS/PHOENIX UNDER 5′
