For the first time ever, we know who the NHL All-Stars will be, but not which team most of them will play for. The 2011 NHL All-Star Game on January 30 in hockey-mad North Carolina has a new, quirky format: two captains draft their teams two nights before the game. That opens up lots of fun speculation on which player will be chosen first and who’ll be picked last.
Capitals superstar Alexander Ovechkin and reigning league MVP Henrik Sedin of the Canucks are 4/1 co-favorites to be the first pick. Sidney Crosby of the Penguins is close behind at 5/1, but there’s speculation as to whether he’ll chose to play because of his recent concussion. As for the favorite to be chosen last, that dubious distinction falls to Patrik Elias of the Devils. Because of the rules of the draft, any player could be taken first, but only a forward can be taken last.
