After nine weeks of NFL action, six teams share the NFL’s best record at 6-2: the Baltimore Ravens, Atlanta Falcons, New York Giants, New York Jets, New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers. All six teams are in action this week, and at least two 6-2 teams should fall (because they’re playing another 6-2 team and ties are very rare). Here’s our picks for all four games involving 6-2 teams:
Ravens at Falcons (-120) Thursday 8 PM EDT I don’t think either of these teams really has a claim to being a top team, but I believe in the Falcons a little less. The Ravens are a perennial playoff team in a tougher conference, so they should pull this one out.
Jets (-175) at Browns (3-5) Sunday 1 PM EDT Cleveland is suddenly rocking, coming off two straight impressive wins over the Saints and Patriots, while the Jets barely beat the Lions last week. Plus, Browns head coach Eric Mangini should have plenty of motivation going against his old team and I think he’ll make it three in a row.
Cowboys (1-7) at Giants (-670) Sunday 4 PM EDT I expect the Cowboys to play a little better under new interim head coach Jason Garrett, but probably not well enough to actually pull out a win on the road. The Giants beat the Cowboys in Dallas two weeks ago, dominating the game once they knocked out Tony Romo and backup Jon Kitna came in, and last week New York ran all over Seattle and the Seahawks second-string quarterback. Still, I wouldn’t be shocked if Kitna keeps this one fairly close.
Patriots at Steelers (-225) Sunday 8 PM EDT Neither team looked that good last week, but the Patriots lost and looked worse. The Steelers nearly blew a 20-point fourth quarter lead, but dominated a poor Cincinnati team for three quarters. None of that should matter though as both should be in top form for this game. It will probably come down to turnovers, but I’d give a slight edge to Brady and the Patriots, who should find a way to eke out a close win.
