The big stories of the past three days of pretend games were the Redskins debut of Donovan McNabb, the beginning of the post-McNabb era in Philadelphia, top pick Sam Bradford making his debut, and a peak at what the Steelers will look like without Ben Roethlisberger.  All this and more in the latest fabulous edition of NFL Pretend Roundup….

Eagles 28, Jaguars 27 – Michael Vick showed again why he should be the starting quarterback in Philadelphia. Vick was 11 for 17 for 119 yards through the air, and also ran for 50 yards on 6 carries. There was an interception in there, but Vick also ran 10 yards for a second quarter touchdown. Starter Kevin Kolb was adequate at best, completing 6 of 11 passes for only 95 yards and running twice for 15 yards.

Redskins 42, Bills 17 – Donovan McNabb looked decent in his first game as a Washington Redskin.  The aging former Eagle completed 5 of 8 passes for 58 yards, including a 4-yard touchdown dump to Anthony Armstrong.  New Redskin backup Rex Grossman was more impressive, going 11 for 18 for 140 yards.  Grossman hit tight end Fred Davis for a 9-yard score in the second quarter, then connected with Devin Thomas on a 44-yard touchdown bomb in the third.

Steelers 23, Lions 7 – Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin didn’t want to waste any time playing suspended quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. “With the number of snaps we anticipated the first offense running, it just wasn’t appropriate to play him,” said Tomlin. Roethlisberger may not play in any of Pittsburgh’s preseason games since he’ll miss at least the first four regular season games.  Byron Leftwich got the start for Pittsburgh and didn’t do much with it, completing 6 of 10 passes for just 44 yards.

Vikings 28, Rams 7 – Sam Bradford, the #1 overall pick in the 2010 draft, was sacked four times in his NFL pretend debut for the St.Louis Rams.  Bradford completed less than half his passes, going 6 for 13 for 57 yards. While the Vikings still wait on a decision from Brett Favre, Tavarius Jackson did next to nothing (2-4, 11 yards), but Sage Rosenfels was pretty impressive (23-34, 310 yards, 3 TDs).

Michael Vick also lost a fumble that went the other way to kill a good drive. Playing against second stringers can make anyone look good.
