NFL Playoff Betting: Wild Card Weekend

The playoff picture is set and it looks like sportsbooks everywhere have given the advantage to all four home teams in the first round of the 2009-10 NFL playoffs.

We’ve given the edge to the home teams as well, but we could be in for a couple upsets with at least two of these contests looking like they’ll be good, close games.

New York Jets (+2.5) @ Cincinnati Bengals (-2.5)

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez may be a little too inexperienced to make it very far in the postseason; after all, he barely knows how to slide. However, if his team can continue to run and protect him the way they did during Sunday night’s 37-0 shutout, the Bengals might be staring down their 19th straight year without a playoff victory. While New York has the momentum (winning five of their last six) Cincinnati has been deflating since mid season. The two teams will have their rematch this Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET on NBC. While the Bengals will be playing in memory of passed receiver Chris Henry, the Jets will be dealing with the recent death of their owner’s troubled daughter, Casey Johnson.

Philadelphia Eagles (+4) @ Dallas Cowboys (-4)

While probability tells us the Cowboys are due for a beat down, last Sunday’s 24-0 ass-whooping tells us they’re ready for a sweep. Tony Romo should be able to outduel Donovan McNabb, and despite the return of Brian Westbrook, look for big plays by Terence Newman and DeMarcus Ware to shut down the Eagles. The two sides will face off at 8:00 p.m. ET on NBC.

Baltimore Ravens (+3.5) @ New England Patriots (-3.5)

The Patriots have evened the playing field a bit with the unfortunate loss of Wes Welker, as the Ravens have battled injuries through the last half of the season. Joe Flacco and Ray Rice will he a handful for New England’s defense, but they’ve only allowed 12.7 points per game at home this year. And honestly, they just don’t lose in their house in January.  Watch Randy Moss make some tough catches from Tom Brady this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS.

Green Bay Packers (+2.5) @ Arizona Cardinals (-2.5)

It’ll be interesting to see how Charles Woodson handles Larry Fitzgerald,  and whether Kurt Warner’s offensive line can protect him from Green Bay’s hungry defense. It will be big play after big play from Warner and Aaron Rodgers, so this game could come down to turnovers and defensive play-makers. This could be a close one Sunday evening at 4:40 p.m. ET on FOX.
