There will definitely be no NFL team in the immediate Los Angeles area in the 2015 football season, but it looks like that could change next year. The league has recently begun to look at suitable venues to house a club in Southern California as a temporary home for a temporary home for a Los Angeles-based side. A couple of the grounds being considered are the Rose Bowl and Los Angeles Coliseum.

In the meanwhile, the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers are hoping to join forces on a new open-air $1.7 billion stadium which both teams will play out of as their new home. This ground would be situated in the area of Carson, which already houses the StubHub Center, the home of the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer.

Chris Hardart, who is the vice president of corporate development for the NFL, has confirmed that the league has started to look at possible locations for a Los Angeles team, but didn’t have much more to say about the situation, at least publicly. He said the league is simply investigating all of its options just in case an expansion franchise is granted or an existing club receives the approval to relocate to the area.

He admitted that there have been some other stadiums in consideration along with the rose Bowl and Coliseum, but wouldn’t name them. However, some insiders have mentioned the possibility of Major League Baseball’s Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles as a possibility for a temporary football home. Even though the Los Angeles area is one of the biggest markets in the U.S., it hasn’t had an NFL team there since back in 1995. The former Los Angeles Rams relocated to St. Louis two decades ago and the Raiders headed back to Oakland.

But it’s now believed that either of those teams or perhaps even both of them could be moving once again. Stan Kroenke, the owner of the Rams, has proposed a new stadium in Inglewood, California and as mentioned, the Raiders and San Diego Chargers are hoping to move to a new location in Carson. A special meeting has been scheduled for NFL owners in Chicago on August 11 to discuss the options of a team in Los Angeles and other possible moves.

The NFL is hoping to know which stadiums could be used for a team in L.A. as a temporary base and how much the rent would be among other things. The league could then negotiate specific terms with the stadium owners if they planned on renting a ground. Los Angeles area fans shouldn’t rejoice just yet though, but this is the furthest the NFL has gotten in the last 20 years in regards of bringing football back to the area.
