There was only one major injury in week seven to the Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley, but honestly the Redskins weren’t going anywhere so the injury to their star tight end doesn’t really affect the team as much as it would it they were actually in contention in the NFC East.
It was thought at first went Cooley went down against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football in week seven that he would be out for the season, but now it is being reported that he could possibly recover from his ankle injury and might be able to play a month from now. Like I said though, the Cooley injury isn’t all that significant considering that the Redskins are arguably one of the worst teams in the NFL this season.
Here are the other notable injuries going into week eight:
Arizona Cardinals: Anquan Boldin
Despite having ankle problems the last few weeks, Boldin has still been able to play and keeping up his reputation as one of the toughest guys in NFL today. Boldin is still listed as probable for the Cardinals against the Carolina Panthers in week eight, but I am sure he with be involved in at least a hand of downs. I wouldn’t expect him to play all that much against the Panthers though as at this point they should be an easy win for Kurt Warner and company and they won’t want to risk a serious injury to one of their star wideouts.
Atlanta Falcons: Michael Turner
Turner was a little banged up last week as he was playing with a chest injury against the Dallas Cowboys, but despite playing with the painful injury he was still able to score a touchdown and rush for over 50 yards. Last week was a big game against Tony Romo and company, but this week will be even more important as they face off against the undefeated New Orleans Saints in a NFC South showdown that will have playoff implications.
Turner is listed as probable and will almost certainly play against the Saints on Sunday.
Buffalo Bills: Trent Edwards
It has not been a good season for the Bills so far this year, but their problems continue in week eight as they will be without quarterback Trent Edwards for another week as he tries to recover from a bad concussion.
Even though Edwards is a big loss for the Bills, I don’t really think it would change their outcome against the Houston Texans in week eight. The Bills are headed into a downward spiral and will continue to be as the Texans will most likely light up the scoreboard on Sunday.
Denver Broncos: Brian Dawkins
The Broncos are still undefeated going into week eight against the Baltimore Ravens and perhaps the most impressive part of their game this season under new head coach Josh McDaniels has been the defense. Well, a major part of their revamped defense could possibly be out for Sunday’s game as safety and heart of the defense in Dawkins is listed as questionable with a hamstring injury.
Detriot Lions: Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson
Much like the Buffalo Bills the Detroit Lions aren’t going anywhere this season and without their rookie quarterback Stafford and go to wide receiver Johnson there is literally no hope. Both of the Lions best players are still nursing knee injuries and are listed as questionable for Sunday’s matchup against the St. Louis Rams.
Green Bay Packers: Charles Woodson, Jermichael Finley
Week eight has been the week that all Packers fans have marked on their calendar with Brett Favre coming back to town, but the Packers might be without two keys to the puzzle on both offense and defense. Charles Woodson is listed as probable with a hip injury and will mostly be playing Sunday, but tight end Jermichael Finley is listed as questionable with a knee and probably won’t be playing this weekend.
Houston Texans: Andre Johnson
Andre Johnson has played at a very high level this season and is making a case for being the best wide receiver in the NFL, but he might miss this weekend’s game against the Buffalo Bills with a lung contusion. The Bills aren’t really a team to worry about this season so I won’t be to see Johnson sitting from the sidelines.
Indianapolis Colts: Reggie Wayne, Dwight Freeney, Anthony Gonzalez
It is week eight and Peyton Manning and company are still sitting pretty at 6-0, but they just might suffer their first loss of the season this weekend as they might be without Manning’s favorite target in Reggie Wayne who is nursing a groin injury and is listed as questionable. The defense will suffer a major blow as well if Dwight Freeney sits out with a knee injury which has kept him as questionable for this week’s matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.
One player that has missed a lot of time this season has been wideout Anthony Gonzalez, but he might be able to get back on the field this weekend as he is listed as questionable with a knee injury.
