Football is a rough sport where injuries are a big part of the game and sometimes they’re the deciding factor in games week in and week out. So every week we will be breaking down the most notable injuries in the NFL and how they might impact the upcoming week.
There have only been a few major injuries this season to big time players like the Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher’s season ending wrist injury, Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu knee injury that has kept him out four games and the Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington going down for the season with a banged up shoulder, but no injury has as significant as the Tom Brady’s knee injury last season that turned the New England Patriots upside down. (Hopefully it will still make a good football betting matchup.)
Urlacher not staring down opposing quarterbacks has hurt the Bears, but they are still playing pretty well due to the fact that they actually have an offense that can score points. Polamalu not roaming around in the secondary has hurt the Steelers defense immensely, but that have managed to stay afloat in the first five weeks. Pennington being out for the season was thought to be severe for the Dolphins, but they have actually thrived with backup quarterback Chad Henne taking the snaps.
Both these players sitting out would be a big blog online sports betting guys who were going to bet on them.
Here are the notable injuries for week six:
Detroit Lions: Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson
The Lions are pretty much useless on offense without quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Calvin Johnson and this week they might have to go up against division rival Green Bay Packers without both of them. Both players are battling knees injuries and are mark as questionable to go against the Packers.
Minnesota Vikings: Percy Harvin
The Vikings have another big game this week going up against the Baltimore Ravens and they might be without one of Brett Favre’s favorite targets in rookie wide receiver Percy Harvin. The wideout did practice Friday despite his injured shoulder, but he is still questionable.
New York Jets: Jerricho Cotchery
The Jets are licking their wounds after their disappointing Monday Night Football loss to division rival Miami Dolphins and now it seems rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez will be without one of his go to guys against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Jerricho Cotchery is marked as questionable, but the Jets are saying he will sit in week six trying to heal a hamstring injury.
Oakland Raiders: Darren McFadden
It will be another long week for the Raiders as they go up against the Philadelphia Eagles who will almost certainly tear them apart on both sides of the football. Once again the Raiders will be without their star running back Darren McFadden who is nursing a knee injury.
Washington Redskins: Albert Haynesworth, Clinton Portis
Both Portis and Haynesworth are listed as probable for this week’s matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. With the Redskins really struggling this season it is very important to have both these players healthy and on the field every single week.
