Last week in the NFL it was just blowout after blowout with the top teams in the league destroying the teams struggling to survive. This week we might see more of the same as the bad teams continue to show no improvement and the good teams showing why they are amongst the league’s elite class this season.
You just can’t go wrong starting some of the best quarterbacks in the league this season like Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer, but there are some very good quarterbacks that have seemed to slip through cracks and live in the shadow of the best quarterbacks in the league. The same goes for the top running backs in the league like Adrian Peterson, Michael Turner and Frank Gore, you can go wrong starting these guys, but there are few backs in the league that are surprising people!
Here are the players you should start in Week 8:
Start ‘Em
Quarterback
Kurt Warner, Arizona Cardinals
Warner hasn’t been a great fantasy football quarterback this season like he has in seasons past, but he is starting to come into his own as of late, especially after the win over the New York Giants last week.
This week expect big numbers for Warner as the Cardinals go up against the Carolina Panthers who have been as bad as anyone in the league this season. The Panthers offense has been awful this year with Jake Delhomme throwing interceptions left and right, but their defense has been pretty bad too so Warner should have a big day with at least a couple of touchdowns.
Other notable QBs: Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens; Eli Manning, New York Giants; Brett Favre, Minnesota Vikings
Running Back
Ryan Grant, Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers will be going up against a tough defense in the Minnesota Vikings, but the Vikings will have their hands full this week with Ryan Grant who has started to come on strong in the last couple weeks. Last week Grant had the best game of the season with 148 yards and a touchdown.
When these two teams played each other in week four Grant had a good week with combined 101 yards. Expect more of the same in week eight.
Other notable RBs: Fred Jackson, Buffalo Bills; Willis McGahee, Baltimore Ravens; Knowshon Moreno, Denver Broncos
Wide Receiver
Roddy White, Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons struggled last week against the Dallas Cowboys, but the Matt Ryan and Roddy White connection has been working to perfection as of late and I expected that to continue in the Falcons toughest game yet against the undefeated New Orleans Saints.
The Saints will almost certainly win this matchup of the best in the NFC South, but White will be Ryan’s main target and could if you start ’em you could get 100 yards and a couple touchdowns out of White.
Other notable WRs: Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals; DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles; Marques Colston, New Orleans Saints
Tight End
Owen Daniels, Houston Texans
With Andre Johnson possibly sitting out this week against the Buffalo Bills, Matt Schaub will most likely be making use of his second favorite target in tight end Owen Daniels who has been arguably one the best tight ends in the NFL this season. If Johnson sites, Daniels could be good for couple touchdowns this week against Buffalo.
Other notable TEs: Dallas Clark, Indianapolis Colts; Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys
Kicker
Nate Kaeding, San Diego Chargers
The Chargers are playing their hated rivals in the Oakland Raiders this weekend in San Diego. The Raiders defense will not be able to stop Phillip Rivers and company which means Kaeding will be getting in on a lot of the action.
Other notable Ks: Matt Stover, Indianapolis Colts; Mason Crosby, Green Bay Packers
Defense
Chicago Bears
The Bears are playing against the Cleveland Browns this weekend and much like the San Diego Chargers they will most likely be putting up a lot of points and absolutely dominating on the defensive side of the football.
Other notable Defenses: Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals
