The Reggie Bush era in the Big Easy is now officially over as the New Orleans Saints have chosen to cut their losses and trade the former USC star running back to the Miami Dolphins. This move was something that has been in the works for quite some time as the Saints knew that they either had to trade or release Bush before next season.
With Reggie Bush set to be paid $11.8 million dollars next season by New Orleans, the Saints had to make a move due to the new salary-cap restrictions. It was thought that the Saints would just release, but this trade seemed to make more sense for the team and also gave Bush a new contract with the Dolphins.
Reportedly, the Miami Dolphins have agreed to a two-year deal with Reggie Bush which would pay him a total of $10 million dollars. Obviously, Bush would have loved to have made more than that in just one more season with the Saints, but this does give the star running back a chance to resurrect his career with a new team in the middle of rebuilding.
One thing that will make this trade intriguing for Reggie Bush is the fact that he will have a legitimate shot at starting for the Dolphins out of the backfield. With Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams most likely on their way out due to free agency, the Dolphins could make Reggie Bush their starter.
In return for Reggie Bush, the New Orleans Saints have received backup safety Jonathon Amaya and undisclosed draft picks.
