Preview: The Purdue Boilermakers will head to Champaign to take on the Fighting Illini of Illinois. This game will feature two teams out of the Big Ten, with high hopes come tournament time. Purdue is 18-5 overall, and currently ranked 12th in the Associated Press poll.

The Boilermakers are 8-3 in conference play, tied with the Wisconsin Badgers for second place; trailing only Ohio State. The Boilermakers picked up a 67-53 win over state rival Indiana their last time out. That win came after Purdue was unable to slow down Wisconsin, in Madison. The other two losses for Purdue in conference play came at Ohio State and Minnesota.

In non-conference play, Purdue fell at West Virginia, and a neutral floor game to Richmond. Matt Painter and his crew are led in scoring by the duo of JaJuan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore. The guards are scoring 38.4 of the 73.5 points scored for Purdue. Illinois has fallen out of the most recent Associated Press poll. A win on Sunday and the Illini may be heading back in. Bruce Weber’s crew picked up a big road win over Minnesota on Thursday night.

The Fighting Illini are 16-8 overall, and 6-5 in conference play. The Fighting Illini are just ½ game ahead of Michigan State, with Minnesota, Michigan and Penn State close behind. Illinois is led by Demetri McCamey and his 14.8 points per game. McCamey did not start in the win over Minnesota, and was discussed by Weber as “not playing hard”. Illinois have reached the Final Four five times in school history. These two teams will play again on March 1st in West Lafayette.

Our prediction for Illinois Fighting Illini vs Purdue Boilermakers: Illinois pulls out a narrow victory. Illini to win 69-68.
