2010 Capital One Bowl

Alabama Crimson Tide (9-3) vs. Michigan State Spartans (11-1)

Preview: In one of the sexiest non BCS bowls of the year, on New Years Day, the Alabama Crimson Tide will take on the Michigan State Spartans. This game is in Orlando, Florida as part of the Capital One Bowl.

Alabama, the defending national champions finished the regular season with a 9-3 record. The Crimson Tide took defeats at South Carolina, at LSU and at home with Auburn in the final game of the regular season. Nick Saban’s squad finished in fourth place in the SEC – West Division. The Crimson Tide have seen wide receiver Julio Jones put up big numbers this season. The wide receiver caught 75 passes for over 1000 yards and 7 touchdowns. If that is not enough, the Crimson Tide have the defending Heisman winner – Mark Ingram, along with a talented quarterback in Greg McElroy.

2010 Outback Bowl

Location: Tampa, FL

Florida Gators (7-5) vs. Penn State Nittany Lions (7-5)

Preview: Two teams that were seen to have underachieved this season will get together on New Years Day to play in the Outback Bowl. The Florida Gators and the Penn State Nittany Lions will battle in a game that features teams with identical 7-5 records.

The Florida Gators will play their final game under the leadership of Urban Meyer. Meyer is resigning as the head football coach of the Gators, and Will Muschamp is taking over next season. Meyer, at the age of 46 will finish with either 103 of 104. The Gators won their first four games of the season; but then fell in three straight to Alabama, LSU and Mississippi State. Wins over Georgia and Vanderbilt got the Gators and their fans excited, but losses to South Carolina and Florida State in the ladder part of the season forced a sore ending for Gators fans. Florida running back Trey Burton led the team in touchdowns; with 11.

2010 TicketCity Bowl

Location: Dallas, TX

Northwestern Wildcats (7-5) vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders (7-5)

Preview: The first game of the New Year will feature the Northwestern Wildcats and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. This game will take place in Dallas, Texas as part of the TicketCity Bowl.

Both teams come into the game with 7-5 records, and both played out of major conferences. The Northwestern Wildcats lost three of their last four games on the season. Northwestern finished in a three way tie for fourth place in the Big Ten. The Wildcats notable wins on the season came over Vanderbilt and Iowa. The Wildcats will be without their starting quarterback Dan Persa. Persa went down to an injury in the Iowa win, and didn’t play against Illinois and Wisconsin. In the season finale against the Badgers, Northwestern allowed 70 points. On the season, Northwestern scored 25.7 points per game and allowed 27.7 points per game.
