College football betting free picks: BCS Championship Game

Well, we’re down to one last college football betting opportunity…er….game of the season as Alabama takes on Texas in the BCS Championship.  Nick Saban could probably already run for governor of the state as it is, and if he pulls off the win tonight would win in a landslide.  For someone who grew up and went to college in SEC country its hard to believe that ‘bama hasn’t won a National Championship since 1992 and obviously that has been a lot harder for Crimson Tide loyalists to deal with than anyone.  Texas is going for their 2nd title in five years, having upset USC with Vince Young at quarterback back in 2005.

College football betting free picks: GMAC Bowl

Wait a minute…I thought we were done with insignificant bowl games?  Apparently not, as Central Michigan and Troy State head to Mobile, Alabama to play in the GMAC Bowl.  I have no clue why they scheduled this game now instead of earlier in the bowl season.  Maybe they were thinking that without any other bowl games on TV that people might actually watch it, but they could have done the same thing in December when people were all excited for college football betting season..er…bowl season to begin.  This rant in no way should be seen as a slight on either team as they’re both pretty good.  Central Michigan won the Mid American Conference for their third title in 4 years and finished 11-2.  Troy State–which is now technically Troy University but I’ll forever call them Troy State–won the Sun Belt Conference and finished 9-3.  Both teams feature excellent quarterbacks who may wind up playing on Sundays in CMU’s Dan LeFevour and Troy’s Levi Brown.  In actuality, its a matchup that could produce a very entertaining football game.  Just so you know how hard I work for you, there was a dude cheerleader in this picture and I had to crop him out.  So don’t think I’m not willing to go the extra mile for you people.

College football betting free picks: New Year’s Day Bowl Games

We’ve got a big day of football on tap for New Year’s Day with five bowl games.  There’s five more on January 2nd, but the New Year’s day college football betting card looks much stronger.  In any case, we’ll be back with a round up of the 1/2/10 action later but lets get started now with my suggested wagering positions for Friday’s games.  The only game I don’t have a strong position on is the Florida/Cincinnati matchup in the Sugar Bowl.  Much of that has to do with the psychological/motivational factors surrounding both teams, particularly due to their off the field coaching soap operas.  On one hand, I can make a case that Florida has the better balanced team and the superior talent.  On the other hand, there’s an equally good case that Cincinnati–with one of the best passing attacks in college football–is way too good a team to be laying 12′ points.  So the Sugar Bowl is a ‘no opinion’ but we’ve got positions on all of the other games.  We’ll start bright and early at 8 AM Pacific Time with the Outback Bowl:

College Football Free Picks: Hawaii Bowl–SMU vs. Nevada

This game was supposed to have worked out a little differently, since the only time Hawaii bowl games draw well is when the University of Hawaii is involved.  This game would have been an intriguing matchup locally had the Rainbows faced SMU, as June Jones used to coach at Hawaii. Unfortunately, Hawaii wasn’t able to beat Wisconsin in their final game and become bowl eligible, so the resulting contest between SMU and Nevada will likely be played before a largely empty grandstand.  Nevada is a -14’ favorite with the total set at a whopping 73 points.
