During this NBA offseason the league has gotten a lot more attention then it usually does due to the big-name free agents that were on the open market like LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Amare Stoudemire. Now that all these players have signed with their new teams and other players like Tracy McGrady and Shaq have also inked new deals, the NBA news has really started to die down, but the Denver Nuggets have started to bring attention back to the league with trade rumors surrounding both Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith.
Obviously, the biggest news to come out of Denver is Carmelo Anthony potentially getting traded, but losing both J.R. Smith and Melo would be devastating to the Denver Nuggets and could quite possibly result in the team going from a possible title contender to missing the playoffs altogether.
Even though missing the playoffs completely might be a bit drastic, only because we don’t know what teams these players will be going to and what players the Nuggets will get in return, it is still a good possibility that the Nuggets could quickly head towards a drastic rebuilding process.
Unlike Melo who has already said that he would like to be traded to one of the following three teams in the Houston Rockets, New Jersey Nets or the New York Knicks, J.R. Smith’s future is uncertain at best as no teams have really come forward and expressed interesting in the shooting guard, but with the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks looking at bringing in Rudy Fernandez, they might look into bringing in J.R. Smith instead or as an alternative.
As of right now, no moves have been made by the Denver Nuggets in order to trade away J.R. Smith, but with there still being a few months before the NBA season starts up again, anything can happen between now and then.
