NBA Free Play for 12/6/09: The Heat Is On

A short slate of NBA action on Sunday, we like a position in the nightgame game between the Miami Heat and Sacramento Kings:

MIAMI HEAT VS. SACRAMENTO KINGS:

Sometimes sports handicapping can be as simple as reading between the lines.  Miami comes off back to back losses on the road, dropping a game at Denver followed by that heartbreaking last second dagger-by-Kobe-Bryant loss to the Lakers.  A win here will give them a .500 record on this road trip and in my estimation they’re facing a Sacramento team that is getting a little too much respect from linesmakers.  At first glance, the Kings look to have regained their home court swagger hearkening back to the days when the Arco Arena ranked alongside Memorial Coliseum in Portland and the Delta Center in Salt Lake City as the nastiest places for visiting teams to play in the entire league.  Sacto has won 8 straight and 9 of 10 at home, but a little investigation tells a different story.  They’ve had an amazingly favorable scheduling run playing only two teams with winning records during that stretch, which includes their loss to Atlanta.  In other words, 8 of the 9 wins have come against teams that had losing records at the time (though Oklahoma City is now above .500).  The Kings’ last four home opponents (New York, New Jersey, New Orleans and Indiana) have combined for 20 wins on the year.

Miami enters this game as a -1 (-1′ at some books) favorite, meaning that they don’t have to do much to bring home the bacon besides winning the game.  The Heat have owned the series against the spread, covering 20 of the last 24 meetings between the two teams (18-6 straight up).  Miami is also 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games on the Kings’ home floor.  Better team in a near pick ‘em situation in a series they’ve owned in recent years all adds up to a good spot to ‘bring the Heat’.

PLAY MIAMI HEAT -1 OVER SACRAMENTO KINGS
