It has been an interesting postseason in the NBA so far as there have been plenty of surprises throughout the playoffs with teams getting knocked out much earlier than anticipated and other teams defying the odds.
Before the NBA playoffs began, everyone was riding the Cleveland Cavaliers bandwagon as it was a forgone conclusion that the two-time NBA MVP LeBron James would lead the Cavs into the NBA Finals and bring home an NBA title. Despite almost everyone being in agreement about the Cavs possibly winning an NBA title this season, that just wasn’t the case as Cleveland underestimated the competition for the second straight season and failed to live up the hype once again.
Needless to say, the Cleveland Cavaliers could be on the verge of serious retooling this summer as they have already fired head coach Mike Brown and look like they will lose LeBron James to free agency come July 1st.
Along with the Cavs, the Dallas Mavericks were also unable to live up to expectations as they were dominated in the first round by their division rivals in the San Antonio Spurs. Despite making serious upgrades to their roster in the regular season with the additions of Caron Butler, DeShawn Stevenson and Brendan Haywood, the Mavs just couldn’t hang with the veteran Spurs.
Now the NBA postseason is down to just two teams in the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. Not only are these two teams the most successful franchises in the NBA, but there is a lot of history between these two clubs as there is no love lost and the Lakers will be looking for some redemption after getting blown out in game six of the NBA Finals back in 2008 by the Celtics.
As of right now, the Los Angeles Lakers look like the more complete team heading into the NBA Finals as Kobe Bryant is playing at an extremely high level and the team chemistry is really working. The Boston Celtics on the other hand have gotten back to their defensive savvy ways as dominated both the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Orlando Magic with some patent lockdown defense.
This will be classic match up between a great offense and a great defense in these NBA Finals with the potential to go the full seven games, but in the end I believe Kobe Bryant and company will have their vengeance and win their second straight NBA title.
