NBA betting on tap for Sunday with two games on the board. Cleveland is at Boston, but we’ll focus on the Western Conference matchup between the Phoenix Suns and San Antonio Spurs. Spurs have their backs up against the wall after losing three straight to ‘Los Suns’, and are facing elimination here today. The game starts at 5:05 PM Pacific.
SAN ANTONIO SPURS VS. PHOENIX SUNS:
Everyone knows the situation the Spurs now face–no NBA team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a 7 game series. In fact, just under 40% of teams in this situation make it to a Game 5. It’s a difficult motivational spot, with the only thing awaiting the Spurs should they win being a trip back to the Suns tough home court in Phoenix. Teams up 3-0 in the NBA playoffs win the 4th game and complete the sweep 60.2% of the time and with Phoenix a +3′ point underdog all we need for them to do is win the game outright.
San Antonio was able to outlast a gutless Dallas team in the first round, but this is a very bad tactical matchup for them. They don’t have the personnel to compete at the Suns preferred tempo, nor do they have the defensive stoppers to slow the game down. So far in this series all of the games have followed a similar script–the Spurs are competitive up to a point but the Suns run away with it late. Compounding the Spurs’ problems is the fact that Phoenix is playing some of their best basketball of the year. They’ve won 10 of their last 12 games both straight up and against the spread. Phoenix has also covered 12 of the last 18 meetings with San Antonio including 6 of 8 on the Spurs’ home court. Phoenix won 2 of 3 in the regular season, covering all three. We look for Phoenix to complete the sweep on Sunday and advance to the Western Conference Finals.
