We’ll do our best with a barbarically short card on Sunday with only 3 games in the NHL and 6 games in the NBA. One thing you’ll learn if you do this long enough is that NBA betting enthusiasts are creatures of habit. That, and they don’t necessarily learn from their mistakes or know when they should change their betting habits. I guess you can say that about all sports betting types, but NBA bettors seem to be the worst. There’s probably some NBA betting folks out there who are still playing on and against the Bulls based on concepts that haven’t been valid since Jordan and Pippen were on the team. Anyway, we’ll head north of the border for some basketball today…
BOSTON CELTICS VS. TORONTO RAPTORS
A few years ago, the Toronto Raptors went on a nice ATS run in these early Sunday morning games. It’s been a few years now, but they’re still overvalued despite the fact that their record on Sundays is 20-22 ATS over the last three years. It looks like that may be the case here as the Toronto Raptors welcome the Boston Celtics to town for a 10:05 AM Pacific game.
Kevin Garnett is expected to miss this game and for that reason–and maybe a little bit of the ‘Sundays’ thing–the Raptors are -1 point home favorites. The Celtics have been underdogs twice this season and they’ve won and covered both times. They’re also 26-12 ATS within their own division over the past three years. Toronto has been on a nice run lately, winning 8 of their last nine. Despite that, and despite Garnett’s absence Toronto shouldn’t be favored in this spot.
Lest we forget, the Celtics are 14-5 SU on the road this season and they’ve dealt with a number of injuries all year long. They’ve also dominated the head to head series with Toronto, winning 9 of the last 10 meetings SU with a 7-3 ATS mark in those games. At the Air Canada Centre they’re currently on a 4-0 SU/ATS run. Boston has lost 4 of their last 6 on the road, and the desire to reverse that form should give them the necessary focus to take care of business here. At this price all we need the Celtics to do is win the game, and we like them to do it.
