NBA betting free picks for Saturday: Milwaukee at Utah

NBA betting value is not found by blindly betting on the underdog.  Sometimes line value can be found betting favorites, and this appears to be one of those situations.  Utah is off of that incredible last second win over Cleveland in their last game.   Sundiata Gaines, late of the NBDL Idaho Steelheads and playing on a 10 day contract buried a three point game winner as time expired.  It was a cold blooded dagger worthy of Kobe Bryant and earned Gaines another 10 day deal.  Gaines had already shown some impressive skills and poise as he logged a lot of floor time with injuries to Ronnie Price and Deron Williams.  Gaines has a solid all around game–no surprise to anyone who followed his college career at Georgia–and most importantly has that intangible ‘it’ factor as well as some serious confidence and swagger.  If the Jazz don’t lock him up to a longer term deal they’re nuts.

Milwaukee just isn’t a very good team.  They did play–and win–last night at Golden State which could leave them fatigued after having run with the Warriors all game long. Tonight’s game will be the Bucks’ 3rd in four nights and will have to deal with the Salt Lake City altitude as well.  The Friday night win was only the Bucks fourth pointspread cover in their last 11 games.  Scott Skiles is generally a good NBA coach, but he’s dealing with a lot of injuries (most recently to Michael Redd) and a roster full of players that don’t all buy into his defense first mindset.

Utah has played well of late, with a 4-0-1 ATS mark in their last five games.  As we’ve discussed before they’ll be fighting all year long for a playoff spot in the brutally tough Western Conference.  Currently, they’re in 7th place but lead 8th place Houston by only 1/2 game and 9th place OKC by only 1 game.  They know they need to get the easy wins whenever they can, and that’s evident in Utah’s domination of the Eastern Conference this year.  The Jazz are 12-5 SU/11-5-1 against the East this year, and they get a chance to beat up on a sub .500 team from the other conference tonight.  And everyone knows that Utah is a solid home team with a 15-6 SU/13-7-1 ATS mark at the Energy Solutions Arena in Salt Lake City.
