Most Valuable Peyton

Peyton Manning has won an NFL-record fourth Most Valuable Player award.

The Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback earned the Associated Press MVP honors Saturday, voted on by sports journalists and broadcasters who cover the NFL. Manning, who also won it in 2003, 2004 and 2008, received 39.5 of the 50 votes.

Drew Brees tallied 7.5, Philip Rivers got two, and one person even voted for Brett Favre, who has earned three MVPs in his career.

“I’m very humbled and grateful to be honored with this award and I really feel like it is a reflection of our team,”  Manning said. “I have to believe that starting 14-0 and having seven comeback wins has a lot to do with this award coming our way, and I’m very grateful to all the players and the coaches and our fans, who were a big part of it. There were a number of other extremely deserving candidates.”

Manning threw for 4,500 with 33 touchdowns this season, leading the Colts to a few tough comeback victories. The 33-year-old QB has started every single game in his career – 192 in the regular season and 15 in the playoffs — and has his eye on a second ring after being named the the 2007 Super Bowl MVP.

Update: Indy will have home-field advantage in next week’s divisional round and throughout the AFC playoffs. As a 6.5-point favorite, they’ll host the Baltimore Ravens next Saturday night at 8:15pm ET.
