Morales Leaves Void For Angels

Angels slugger Kendry Morales was unable to walk off the field Saturday after breaking his leg celebrating the walk-off grand slam he hit.  While Morales joins the pantheon of athletes hurt while celebrating and may be out for the year, the Angels are left with a big void in their lineup.  CSN New England wants them to take Mike Lowell off Boston’s hands, noting that he’d be a cheaper option than Lance Berkman or Paul Konerko.  (Lowell also managed to win the 2007 World Series MVP without injuring himself.)

So far reps of the Angels and Red Sox have said there’s been no trade talks between the clubs.  An anonymous AL executive said the Angels will most likely try to fill the Morales hole from within their organization since that’s their usual MO.  After Sunday’s game, the Angels were on a two-game winning streak, two games below .500, and only 2.5 back of Oakland for the AL West lead.

But without another big bat, it’s hard to see the Angels doing anything in the postseason even if they can win their weak division (not to mention survive a playoff-clinching celebration without further injury).
