Monday Night Football Recap: Ravens Shutout Browns

Coming into this game I thought the Baltimore Ravens would be out for blood and try to light up the scoreboard, but it didn’t turn out that way as the Ravens resorted to the ground game and Ray Rice for the majority of the contest.

The Cleveland Browns on the other hand were just looking for some positive to go on in this game, mainly some good production from Brady Quinn who head coach Eric Mangini has given a second chance as the starter in Cleveland.

Unfortunately for the Browns, it was more of the same from Quinn as he threw for just 99 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions.  The Baltimore defense is amongst the toughest in the league, but if the Browns and Brady Quinn are going to show any signs of life this season they have to put up some points against teams with lockdown defenses like their AFC North division rivals.

I never like to say that teams have no hope to turn it around because I believe teams always have the ability to turn it around at any given moment, especially at the professional level, but the Cleveland Browns are the first team in a long time that I believe has no hope until they make some serious changes with the first change being a head coach.

As for the Baltimore Ravens they came out to play in a game that was basically a gimmie and quarterback Joe Flacco and the offense struggled, but they got the job done on the ground and that was all they needed to do in the 16-0 shutout of the Browns.

Where do these teams go from here?

The Browns are in desperation mode and honestly I don’t think they can do much besides stick it out until the end of the season and then make some big decisions on what they are going to do with their football team. Hopefully, for their sake anyway, they get a high draft pick and are able to get a quarterback like Tim Tebow or Sam Bradford or a running back like Jahvid Best out of Cal. If the Browns can get a good offensive player in the draft and pick up some solid free agents in the offseason they might be able to do some damage next season, but until then it will be a long and hard road to finish out the year.

The Ravens need to win every single game from here on out for a chance to compete against the other great teams in the AFC for the Wildcard. Baltimore is 5-4 as of right now and in third place in the AFC North so there only hope is clinching a Wildcard to continue into the playoffs like they did last season.
