Monday Night Football Recap: Broncos Stay Perfect at 6-0

It seems that no matter how many wins the Denver Broncos get this season everyone still seems to be waiting for Josh McDaniels and company to collapse back into the disaster they were in the offseason.

Regardless of everyone waiting for the Denver Broncos to implode and finally record their first loss, the Broncos keep showing that they are a very good football team this season as they continue their unbelievable undefeated run after beating the AFC West division rival San Diego Chagers 34-23 on Monday night.

Even though the Broncos ultimately walked away with the win on Monday night in San Diego, the Chargers put up a pretty good fight throughout the game, especially in the first half as they put up 20 points on the Denver defense.

This game was just dominated by the special teams as both Darren Sproles from the Chargers and Eddie Royal from the Broncos reached the endzone on kickoffs and punt returns. Usually you see one special teams touchdown at the most, but in this game there were three with Royal going the distance twice.

So even though the special teams for the Broncos was the deciding factor, the Denver offense got going in the second half as the Chargers offense completely disappeared by only scoring a lone field goal in the second half. This has been the trend of Josh McDaniels football in Denver throughout the season as the majority of his opponents haven’t been able to put many, if any points on the board in the second half of play.

Kyle Orton had another impressive game in week six as he threw for 229 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Orton hasn’t gotten much attention throughout his career, but he has played like a Pro Bowler so far this season as he seems to consistently throw for multiple touchdowns and does not turn the football over.

Phillips Rivers had a pretty decent game himself throwing for 274 yards and touchdown, but he just couldn’t get it done in the second half as he was constantly pressured and fumbled the football three times losing one of those three fumbles. Along with his fumbles Rivers was sacked five times as the San Diego offensive line just couldn’t hang with a Denver seemingly on a mission to flatten the Chargers quarterback.

Needless to say, the Denver Broncos are for real and now seem to be playoff bound after handling the one team in the AFC West division that would actually give them some competition this season. The Broncos still have a ways to go, but they have lived up to unbeaten record thus far and I believe they could go far this season in the AFC if they can keep playing well on both sides of the football throughout the season.

The Broncos may have a bye week in week seven, but they will have their work cut out for them when they come back in week eight as their schedule gets no easier down the stretch playing against the Baltimore Ravens in week eight and the defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers in week nine.
