MMA Quick Jabs: The Latest on Randy Couture

MMA Quick Jabs on this Tuesday…

Randy Couture will take on anyone, anywhere. This much we know. But his recent talk about being willing to take on Anderson Silva made us do a double-take. “The Natural” needs to get through a world-class striker in James Toney before we can see him battle Silva. Says Couture: “I think he’s a fantastic fighter, and if that’s someone they want me to compete against I’d be all over that.” After Silva obliterates Chael Sonnen — I predict a first round KO — Silva will need somebody to fight. Why not Couture? Would it break the Lesnar vs. Carwin pay-per-view record?

Sylvester Stallone was recently on Letterman and had this to say about Couture, his co-star in the new film “The Expendables”: “Someone asked me, ‘You put all these tough guys, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, in a room together, who comes out?’ If you walked in 10 minutes later you’d see Randy Couture sitting on top of us having a chocolate fudge sundae.”

Couture was asked by Cage Potato whether or not he thinks his fight with James Toney is a freak show. “I don’t know about a ‘freak show.’ Maybe a ‘novelty’ fight, and that kind of depends on James. I certainly look at it as a real fight. If I stand around in front of this guy, he will knock my damn head off; I mean, that’s a very real threat. So I don’t know about a freak show. James running his mouth and doing all the things that he’s doing kind of makes it that…I still don’t see it as ‘boxing vs. MMA,’ but if James doesn’t bring anything else but boxing into that cage, then I guess that’s what it is, and that’s okay with me.”
