Baseball betting for Wednesday, and we’ve got a dog on a barrel to illustrate the play. Rockies 13-14 on the year, just ahead of the LA Dodgers for last place in the NL West. San Diego, on the other hand, is leading the NL West at 17-10. The teams split the first two games of the series, and the rubber match goes at Petco Park at 7:05 PM Pacific.
COLORADO ROCKIES AT SAN DIEGO PADRES:
Colorado may be reverting to their traditional ‘good at home/bad on the road’ tendencies. Rockies are 7-5 at home, 6-9 on the road. Padres are something of a surprise, and they’ve made most of their bones with a very strong home record. Padres are 11-4 at home and are getting very good pitching from both their starters and their bullpen. Another one of San Diego’s talented young lefthanders gets the start tonight, with Clayton Richard taking the hill. Richard has suffered some bad luck and the Padres have lost 3 of his 5 starts, but he’s pitched well. He’s got a 3.00 ERA overall, but at home his ERA is 2.04 with 18 strikeouts against 4 walks. Aaron Cook is typically a decent pitcher, but he’s gotten off to a ‘rocky’ start this year–Cook’s overall ERA is 5.52, but Colorado has lost all three of his road starts with a 8.79 ERA.
The Rockies have been a huge moneyburner against LHP on the road in the past couple of seasons–they’re now 9-20 against lefties in the past two years and have lost over 10.5 units for bettors. We’ll continue to back San Diego as long as their pitching holds up, and we’re getting a really nice price in this spot.
