We’ll be back to our ‘baseball dogs’ theme tomorrow, but when I was searching for an image for this post I came across this ‘old school’ San Diego Padres logo. I tried to find a cute picture of a puppy curled up in the clubhouse taking a nap with Ken Griffey, Jr. but was unsuccessful. Anyway, we got baseball betting for Wednesday night as the San Diego Padres head north to take on the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park. Padres took the first game of the series on Tuesday night by a 3-2 score as Barry Zito lost his first decision of the season. This game goes at 7:15 PM Pacific:
SAN DIEGO PADRES VS. SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS:
If you’ve been paying attention, you’ve figured out by now that profitable sports betting is all about finding value. It’s a similar concept as investing in the stock market, where you’re looking for stocks that are undervalued. Here we’re looking for teams that are undervalued and playing on them, or teams that are overvalued and playing against them. In this matchup, we’ve got both. Now, I like this San Francisco team a lot. In particular, their pitching staff is flat out awesome and tonight’s starter, Matt Cain aka ‘The Pride of Dothan, Alabama’ is one of the most talented young righthanders in baseball.
Having said that, however, take a look at the NL West standings and you’ll see that the Giants are in second place behind–you guessed it–the San Diego Padres. San Diego has been downright beastly at Petco Park but they’ve got a winning record on the road at 9-7 good for 3.3 units of profit. The Padres will start Clayton Richard tonight, who is a very solid young southpaw with a decent 3.31 ERA. Richard looked very strong in his previous appearance against San Francisco this season (4/19) when he limited the Giants to 1 ER in 6 1/3 innings of work. The Padres swept that series and have now won 4 straight against San Francisco, and turned a 2.9 unit profit against the Giants last year.
Ultimately, this is a much closer game than the price would suggest and given the YTD date matchups one in which the Padres offer a lot of upside. We’ll take a San Diego team that is already +9.3 units on the season as a nice priced underdog.
PLAY SAN DIEGO (RICHARD) +155 OVER SAN FRANCISCO (CAIN)
