Preview: The Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals will play the third of a four game series at Busch Stadium on Saturday evening. The two teams have split the first two games, with Milwaukee winning Thursday night and the Cardinals picking up a Friday night win. The two teams come in with exact opposite records. The Brewers, at 36-44, are 9.5 games behind the Cincinnati Reds in the National League Central. Corey Hart has seen his power numbers rise this season, as he leads the team with 18 homeruns and 60 runs batted in. Ryan Braun is batting just slightly under .300, to also lead the team. Milwaukee has been outscored 411 – 383 on the season. On the mound for the Brewers will be Manny Parra. Parra, a lefthander from California is 2-5, with a 4.12 earned run average. In his career he has won 23 games and lost 35 in 65 games as a starter. In his last start, Parra pitched 5 innings, allowing 7 hits and 4 runs in a no decision against the Astros.
St. Louis will send one of two staff aces Chris Carpenter to the mound. Carpenter is 9-1 with a 2.70 earned run average. He is coming off a start against Arizona where he was hit in the right arm by a line drive, but stayed in the game, completing 7 innings. Carpenter is 126 – 75 in his career as a starting pitcher. The Cardinals come into the game 1.5 games behind the Cincinnati Reds. St. Louis is led by three time MVP Albert Pujols, who is batting .309 with 19 MLB homeruns and 58 runs batted in. The Cardinals are 16th in all of baseball with a .259 batting average.
