Even though the Boston Celtics have been getting a lot of talk about being nothing more than an aging title contender in the Eastern conference these days, GM Danny Ainge went out and signed veteran guard Michael Finley shortly after he was released from the San Antonio Spurs.
So despite people thinking that the Boston Celtics should start shopping for younger players as the big three in Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce are not getting any younger, they continued to search out aging veterans as somewhat of an insurance policy for the second half of the season and into the playoffs.
At one point in time, Michael Finley was one of the better shooting guards in league with an impressive athletic ability and a good jump shot, but ever since joining the San Antonio Spurs about four years ago, Finley skills the start to decline in along with a highlight reel player he used to be.
Michael Finley was by no means a dominant player in this league when he was on his game with the Dallas Mavericks earlier in his NBA career, but is a solid complementary player at the shooting guard position with the ability to hurt you in the paint with his patent powerful drop step dunks and a good outside shot.
The last season the Boston Celtics have had some serious injury problems that prevented them from getting back to the NBA finals as Kevin Garnett was an unable to participate in the playoffs due to the knee injury. Even though it they might not have been able to get back to the NBA finals with a healthy KG, the Celtics were still a dangerous team in the East.
This season the Celtics has experienced much the same as all three of their superstars in Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce have all sat out with injury at some point in time this season. Fortunately, Boston still has arguably one of the best point guards in league in youngster Rajon Rondo who could make a case for the best player on the team these days and has been able to keep them afloat as the light division leaders.
it still remains to be seen whether or not KG and company can compete with the likes of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic and the Atlanta Hawkscome playoff time, but with the addition of Nate Robinson and Michael Finley off the bench they may have improved their chances.
