It looks like France isn’t the only national football team that’s having problem with some of its players. It was announced on Sept. 23rd that two of Mexico’s best players have been handed six-month suspensions from the national squad after a wild party was held in a hotel following the team’s friendly match with Colombia earlier in the month.
Both of the players suspended play in Britain. They are Carlos Vela of Arsenal and Efrain Juarez of Scottish Premier League club Celtic. They were handed the ban by the Mexican Football Federation (FMF), which said the players violated four of the Federation’s rules.
However, they weren’t the only ones who were punished as 11 other members of the squad were fined 50,000 Mexican pesos each for taking part in the alleged party which took place on September 7 after Mexico’s 1-0 win over Colombia 1-0. It was reported that several members of the Mexican team held a party at their hotel to celebrate the win.
Carlos Salcido, who plays for Fulham in the EPL, said some of the players decided to have a bash at the hotel instead of heading out to a local nightclub because of the recent wave of crime in some Mexican cities. The players ended up renting a large room and invited friends and relatives for drinks and food.
But reports leaked out that the players actually hired 15 prostitutes and a transsexual. The FMF didn’t confirm what actually took place; they only announced the suspensions and fines. It’s believed that something similar took place just before the world Cup kicked off this summer in South Africa.
Several Mexican media outlets published pictures of the alleged hookers coming and going from the hotel in the early hours of the morning. One of them was holding a Mexican team jersey. Some photos of a transsexual were also posted to the internet posing with Vela and Salcido.
The FMF said they came to a decision on the punishment after talking with hotel workers and checking out the hotel’s video surveillance cameras. The players that were fined are Carlos Salcido, Guillermo Ochoa, Andrés Guardado, Giovani dos Santos, Gerardo Torrado, Javier Chicharito Hernández, Héctor Moreno, Rafael Márquez, Francisco Maza Rodríguez, and Enrique Esqueda.
