The second leg of the PGA Tour’s FedExCup playoffs doesn’t get started until Friday because of Labor Day weekend, but some of the best golfers in the world will be teeing off Thursday at the Omega European Masters in Switzerland. US Open champion Rory McIlroy is the slight betting favorite at 8/1, just ahead of World No. 2 Lee Westwood at 9/1. Germany’s Martin Kaymer is next at 16/1.
McIlroy will be playing in his first event since injuring his wrist at the PGA Championship earlier this month, but insists he’s fine and roaring to go. “I’m feeling good,” said the 22-year-old phenom. “I had two weeks of rest. I hit balls three times last week in the United States which was fine. I felt it after about 45 minutes of hitting balls and got a bit of treatment on my wrist. I practised for an hour and played nine holes yesterday. Its fine, I’m going to get a little bit of treatment for about 15 to 20 minutes later and do some more practice. It feels like it is nearly a 100 percent.”
