The NFL is officially back to business as usual and with that being said the free agent frenzy has begun with all 32 teams in the league scrambling to fill their rosters and stay under the cap. The one team that has been more concerned than most about this free agency period has been the Seattle Seahawks who have now lost their longtime starting quarterback Matt Hasselback.

Reportedly, Hasselback was not interested in signing the proposed $7 million dollar deal for one year by the Seahawks and has elected to test free agency. This may have been an ill-advised move by the veteran quarterback as there is no telling if there is a team out there that is willing to pay that kind of money to an aging 36-year-old quarterback who is almost certainly on the downside of his career in the NFL.

Whether or not Matt Hasselback will get a better payday somewhere else remains to be seen, but he is confident that he will and has open the door to any team that would be interested in his services. As of right now, four teams have made inquires about Matt Hasselback in the San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans and the Miami Dolphins. All four of these teams are in desperate need of some new blood under center and would love to bring in the veteran quarterback for at least a year or two.

As for the Seattle Seahawks, they have already prepared themselves for the post Matt Hasselback era by signing Tarvaris Jackson and Matt Leinart. Even though neither one of these quarterbacks has done well in a starting role in the NFL, they might be able to do better in Pete Carroll’s offense.

The most intriguing part of the new signing was Matt Leinart teaming up with Pete Carroll once again. It will be interesting to see if they can bring it back to the USC days with Matt Leinart connecting with wide receiver Mike Williams.
