Martin Brodeur has broken yet another NHL record.
With his 104th career shutout – a milestone that fell on a 4-0 win over Sidney Crosby and the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins Monday night — Brodeur snapped the 45-year-old record previously held by the legendary Terry Sawchuk.
Just two games after setting the NHL record for regular-season games by a goalie, the forever New Jersey Devil made 35 saves to break the shutout mark in his 1,032nd game over 16 seasons with the same team. Now that’s commitment.
Patrik Elias scored his fourth goal in five games while Dean McAmmond and Zach Parise contributed three assists a piece in the Devils’ fourth straight win, which improved them to an NHL-best 26-8-1. New Jersey snapped Pittsburgh’s five-game winning streak, dominating them at home for the third time this year. The Pens were and outscored 12-2 at Mellon Arena, which is shutting down after this season.
Brodeur and the Devils head out to play the Washington Capitals this Saturday while the Penguins are at home Wednesday against the Ottawa Senators.
