The first day of March Madness betting is in the books and we’ll move on to early action for Friday.  Today we’ve got a great potential upset of a higher seed as Purdue takes on Sienna from the MAAC.  Just a warning–if you go looking for a Siena cheerleader on the Internet be advised that there’s a surprising number of adult film actresses named ‘Sienna’ that have played cheerleaders at various points in their career.

SIENA VS. PURDUE–11:30 AM PACIFIC/2:30 PM EASTERN

This is one of those games that people who don’t know any better will automatically back Purdue due to their bigger ‘name’.  That would be a mistake.  Purdue hasn’t been quite right since late February, when Robbie Hummel was lost to a season ending knee injury.  The Boilermakers haven’t covered a pointspread since then, going on a 0-6-1 versus the number.  Scoring output has also been a concern, with Purdue sputtering against even low level opposition in the Big 10 tournament.  Against the two good teams they played–Minnesota and Michigan State–they scored 42 and 44 respectively.

So here they’ll face a very good team from a low profile conference with plenty of NCAA tournament experience.  Good news for the Saints in that guard Clarance Jackson has been upgraded to ‘probable’ for this game and he’s one of several slashers that should have no trouble penetrating against the undermanned Boilermakers.    Sienna will push the tempo, something Purdue doesn’t usually like.
