It doesn’t look like Manchester United’s Brazilian midfielder Anderson has been having much luck on or off the field lately as he crashed his car in Portugal on Aug. 2nd and was pulled from the wreck just moments before it went up in flames. It’s believed that the 22-year-old player was taken to hospital after the accident and stayed a few hours before being released with what were described as minor injuries.
The crash happened about seven in the morning on a rural road in the town of Braga. It’s been reported that Anderson had spent the evening before at the Sardinha Biba nightclub. He then left the bar in his £125,000 Audi R8. A witness to the crash stated that Anderson was lifeless when he was pulled out of the car before it burst into flames.
The Portuguese Jornal de Noticias reported that Almeno Antunes helped to rescue Anderson from the car as well as two passengers. He stated that there was a cloud of smoke in front of him as Anderson failed to straighten his car out after negotiating a slight bend in the road and then ended up in a field where the car caught fire. Antunes said he thought Anderson was dead and that his brother pulled him out of the car.
The two passengers were only identified as a young Brazilian woman and a man named Victor. They were also involved in the crash and were sent to St Mark’s hospital for treatment of shock, whiplash, and concussion. Roman Fresco, a hospital spokesperson said they also suffered just minor injuries in the mishap.
The unlucky or lucky Anderson, depending on how you look at it, tore his anterior cruciate ligament back in February while playing for United and is still on the sidelines. The Portuguese media reported that Anderson’s public relations firm said the player will now head back to Manchester to work on rehabilitating his knee.
