The biggest English Premier League game of the weekend pits second-place Manchester City against fifth-place Arsenal at Eastlands in Manchester on Oct. 24th. This game is one of the biggest of the early season as the two teams could very well be challenging Chelsea for the title and battling it out with each other and Manchester United for second place. It’s also interesting to see how the two squads stack up against each other as they’re two of the strongest in the league with a lot of depth.

City is definitely strongest when it comes to goalkeeping with England international Joe Hart and Irish international Shay Given. Arsenal’s strongest link is actually its keeping with Manual Almunia of Spain and Lucas Fabianski of Poland. Almunia has a reputation of making some terrible blunders at the worst of times.

Arsenal’s lineup looks to be as strong now as it has been since the start of the season with Theo Walcott and Cesc Fabregas returning last week. Striker Nicklas Bendtner could also be in the squad. However, the Londoners will be without young English star Jack Wilshire as he received a straight red card last weekend against Birmingham for a nasty tackle and Robin van Persie is still out.

City’s Carlos Tevez is co-leader with Chelsea’s Florent Malouda when it comes to the EPL goal scoring race with seven goals each. Fellow strike Emmanuel Adebayor also has a pair of hot boots lately as he slammed in a hat trick in the Europa League on Thursday in a 3-1 win against Lech Poznan. Young Italian striker Mario Balotelli could even provide more offense as he may finally be healthier enough to make the lineup. David Silva has also been playing well. Kolo Toure will likely miss the game due to a hamstring injury and his brother Yaya is questionable.

Arsenal is going into the game after an impressive 5-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday, but have lost four of their last five games away at Man City.

City has 17 points from eight games and Arsenal has 14. The pressure’s on both clubs for this match to keep pace with league-leading Chelsea as they beat Wolves 2-0 at home on Oct. 23. Chelsea has 22 points after that win.

Manchester City vs Arsenal Betting Odds and Prediction

This is a very intriguing matchup, but they very rarely live up to all the hype. Last weekend’s Man City game against Blackpool was thoroughly enjoyable while this one could be a snooze fest if the teams play too defensively. If it does live up to its potential it could be one of the best of the season. If both teams go end to end we should see a few goals and a 2-2 draw could be a possibility.

Sportsbook William Hill has the odds of a Man City win posted at 11/8 while an Arsenal victory is 11/4 and the odds of a draw are 11/5. The odds of 2-2 draw are 14/1.
