Lost Lincecum Losing It?

Is Tim Lincecum suddenly the weak link in the Giants rotation?  San Francisco’s last two losses have come with their two-time Cy Young winner starting.  Timmy lost his first decision of the year last Wednesday at home against the Nationals, and manager Bruce Bochy told his ace he needed to “relax” — “relax” being almost definitely code for smoke marijuana.

Either Lincecum didn’t listen or smoked too little or too much, because he came up a loser at home again on Monday.  It’s only the fourth time in Timmy’s career that he’s suffered back-to-back loses.

Monday’s game was a highly hyped battle with Colorado’s Ubaldo Jiminez, who’s off to a flukish, Zack Grienke-esque start.  For the third straight start, Lincecum didn’t make it out of the sixth inning, something he’d done in each of his first seven starts this season (while going 4-0 with a sub-2 ERA).

The Giants are still hanging around in both the NL West (3.5 back of the Dodgers) and the Wild Card (2 back), but they’ll obviously need better from Lincecum if they want to be playing in October.  Timmy’s next start looks easy — a road tilt with the Pirates who are 10 games under and slightly more awful than the Rockies and Washington.
