Lincecum Pays Fine, Awaits Huge Raise

Tim Lincecum dished out $513 to the Clark County, Washington courts Tuesday to resolve marijuana possession charges, which were reduced to a civil infraction.

The charges stemmed from a speeding citation back in October when officers found a bag and a pipe in the San Francisco Giants phenom’s car, which all but shocked us all. The 2008 and 2009 National League Cy Young Award winner had this to say regarding his court appearance:

“I’ll try not to let this happen again, move forward and continue with my life.”

You know Tim, I’m pretty sure no one cares that you get high. Just try not to get caught anymore.

In other Giants news, the team also tossed around arbitration numbers with their ace Tuesday. Little Timmy, who made $650,000 last season, asked for $13 million. That is not totally unreasonable, since the kid won two Cy Young awards in his first two full seasons in baseball and has managed a 40-17 record with a 2.90 ERA since his 2007 call-up.

Not to get too technical, because his talent is obvious, but he also owns the league’s best marks ERA, batting average against (.214), winning percentage (.733) and strikeouts (526) over the past two seasons. And he’s only 25 years old, which is more or less ridiculous.

Meanwhile, the club counter-offered a measly $8 million. Not even close, guys.

Lincecum is seeking the richest contract ever awarded in arbitration, and if the two sides don’t come to an agreement, a panel will hold a hearing next month to choose one of the salaries.

I’ll be rooting for Timmy.

These are the people that are kids are going to look up to. The one that they are gonna say I want to be like him. And when everything is going right for that player something like that comes up. What’s wrong with today’s athletes? They are supposed to be our role models. It just upsets me when something like this show up in the media.

    Juan,

Let’s put this into perspective. 50% of all people in the United States admit to smoking Marijuana or trying it at least once. Marijuana is about .001% as dangerous as Alcohol according to traffic deaths caused by either(in fact, find me a single case of someone dying from smoking and driving and you win this argument, but you won’t).

I think Tim IS setting an example we should follow, stop persecuting arbitrary laws made to protect oil companies in the 20s and 30s and start treating pot more like the recreational and harmless drug it can be if used responsibly… come on.
