It has been a long awaited decision for two-time NBA MVP LeBron James, but despite all the speculation and rumors flying around about where King James would be headed, arguably the best player in the league made somewhat of a surprise move this past Thursday by agreeing to sign with the Miami Heat.
Throughout this entire free agency process, which began on July 1st, superstar King James had been getting courted by the New York Knicks, New Jersey Nets, Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls, but one team with an outside chance of acquiring LeBron James was the Miami Heat.
Obviously, the Heat’s number one priority this summer was trying to re-sign their face of the franchise in Dwyane Wade. Along with D-Wade, the Heat were also trying to find another superstar to come to Miami with their sights set on a power forward like Amare Stoudemire or Chris Bosh.
Fortunately, the Heat were able to convince Bosh to come to Miami and shortly their after landed the biggest name in this free agent market in LeBron James.
With this superstar trio intact in South Beach, the Miami Heat have gone from a team that barely makes the playoffs on an annual basis to an instant title contender and arguably the team to beat in the NBA next season. Not only was it impressive for Miami Heat president and former NBA champion head coach Pat Riley to bring in the three biggest names in free agency, but he has been able to revitalize the Miami Heat franchise that could have been on the verge of losing their superstar Dwyane Wade to the Chicago Bulls.
Now that the Miami Heat have become the NBA’s newest super team or Miami Thrice as they are being called, Pat Riley still has his work cut out for him as he needs to fill the roster around these superstars as the Heat only have four players under contract (LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade and Mario Chalmers) after trading Michael Beasley to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
It will be interesting to see what other players Riley can bring in to surround his superstars, but the first player that seems to be headed to South Beach is sharp shooter Mike Miller.
